Uzbekistan — An Emerging MBBS Destination

Uzbekistan is a landlocked Central Asian republic with a rich cultural heritage as the historic heart of the Silk Road. Home to UNESCO World Heritage cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, it is a country where Islamic scholarship and intellectual tradition have flourished for over a millennium. Today, Uzbekistan is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising destinations for Indian students seeking NMC-approved MBBS education abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Uzbekistan MBBS degrees recognised in India?

Yes. The universities we recommend in Uzbekistan — TMA, SamSMU, BSMI, and ASMI — are all approved by India's National Medical Commission (NMC) and listed with the World Health Organization (WHO). Graduates must clear the NExT (National Exit Test) or FMGE examination to obtain Indian medical registration and practise in India. MED EDUTECH GLOBAL recommends only fully NMC-approved institutions.

Is NEET required for MBBS admission in Uzbekistan?

Yes. NEET (UG) qualification is mandatory for all Indian students seeking MBBS admission abroad, as per NMC regulations. However, Uzbekistan universities do not conduct any separate entrance examination — your NEET score is the only academic requirement. Even students with lower NEET scores (above the qualifying cutoff) may be eligible. Contact us to check your eligibility based on your score.

How is Uzbekistan compared to Russia for MBBS?

Uzbekistan offers several advantages over Russia for certain students: (1) 5-year MBBS vs 6 years in Russia — saves one full year; (2) Lower fees overall; (3) Closer to India — Tashkent is ~4 hrs from Delhi vs ~5–8 hrs for Russian cities; (4) Muslim-majority country with halal food readily available; (5) Warmer climate than most Russian cities. Russia has more established universities and a larger Indian community, but Uzbekistan is a strong, fast-growing alternative that offers excellent value.

What is the medium of instruction in Uzbekistan?

All four of our recommended universities offer their MBBS programs for international students entirely in English. Basic Uzbek or Russian language classes are included in the curriculum to help students communicate with patients during clinical rotations, but all academic lectures, exams, and study materials are in English.

Is Uzbekistan safe for Indian students?

Yes. Uzbekistan is consistently ranked among the safest countries in Central Asia. The crime rate is very low, and the government places significant emphasis on security. University hostels have 24hr security and CCTV monitoring. The Muslim-majority culture is warm and hospitable to visitors. Our local coordinator in Uzbekistan provides on-ground support throughout your stay, so you are never alone in case of any concern.

How many Indian students study MBBS in Uzbekistan?

The number of Indian students studying MBBS in Uzbekistan has been growing rapidly over the past 5 years. Tashkent Medical Academy and Samarkand State Medical University have the largest Indian student populations. As Uzbekistan gains recognition as a quality, affordable MBBS destination, the Indian community is expanding at all four universities — providing incoming students with a ready peer support network from Day 1.
